There or not ?
Message from leah28 posted on 14-02-2010 at 01:48:46 (D | E | F)
Hi!
I have a question on this sentence. I want to understand why I do not have to write "THERE" at the end of my sentence?
1. The sentence I live in a village. I play football there.
2. my false answer I LIVE IN A VILLAGE WHERE I PLAY FOOTBALL THERE
3. the good answer I LIVE IN A VILLAGE WHERE I PLAY FOOTBALL.
Thank you very much and have a goode evening!
Leah

Hello,
In this sentence (I LIVE IN A VILLAGE WHERE I PLAY FOOTBALL THERE)you don't have to use the pronoun "there" since you have the noun in the first part("village") and a relative pronoun to link it to the other part("where").
To put it clearly, when you use a relative pronoun("where", "who", "that", "whose", etc.) a pronoun is of no use.
(you don't say "The man who HE lives next door is my boss(imagine!).", do you?).
Hope it's clearer!
Bye!
