Construction/sentences
Message from san99 posted on 19-06-2012 at 02:47:13 (D | E | F)
Hello,
I have written multiple constructions of sentences, I am not sure if all of these are correct or not.
I would be glad if you could check these constructions and point out my mistakes.
Thank you very much.

John locked the door with a z-shaped key. He left the room.
Locking the door with a z-shaped key, John left the room.
After locking the the door with a z-shaped key, John left the room.
Confusion: All of the sentences written above make sense, right? Can I also rewrite this sentence this way:
Having locked the door with a z-shaped key, John left the room.
.........................................................

He felt overpowered. He surrounded himself and got arrested.
Feeling overpowered, he surrounded himself and got arrested.
Having felt overpowered, he surrounded himself and got arrested.
He surrounded himself and got arrested for/because he felt overpowered.
Being felt overpowered, he surrounded himself and got arrested.
............................................................

He wanted to buy a motorbike. He didn't have enough money.
Not having enough money, he couldn't buy a motorbike.
He wanted to buy a motorbike, but he didn't have enough money.
..............................................................

He had been very ill-mannered. He was disliked by everyone.
Having been very ill-mannered, he was (being) disliked by everyone.
He was being disliked by everyone, because he had been very ill-mannered.
On account of being very ill-mannered, he had been disliked by everyone.
Being ill-mannered, he had been disliked by everyone.
.........................................................

Sarah was standing at the gate. She was stung by a Scorpio.
Sarah was standing at the gate when she was stung by a Scorpio.
Standing at the gate, Sarah was stung by a Scorpio.
Sarah was stung by a Scorpio while she was standing at the gate.

Norah is the best student in the class. She is my friend living two miles away of my house.
Norah, my best friend, is the best student in the class. She lives two miles away of house.
Norah, my best friend, is living or lives two miles away of my house. She is the best student in the class.
...........................................................................................

I was deceived by Ron. I didn't trust anyone ever after.
After being deceived by Ron, I didn't trust anyone ever after.
Can I also write: Deceived by Ron, I didn't trust anyone ever after.
Is it correct: After having deceived/ being deceived by Ron, I didn't trust anyone ever after.

Hello

John locked the door with a z-shaped key. He left the room.
Locking the door with a z-shaped key, John left the room.
After locking the the door with a z-shaped key, John left the room. OK
Confusion: All of the sentences written above make sense, right? No, not really. We really need the word "after" to understand the order of events.
Having locked the door with a z-shaped key, John left the room. OK
.........................................................

He felt overpowered. He surrounded himself and got arrested.
Feeling overpowered, he surrounded himself and got arrested. OK
Having felt overpowered, he surrounded himself and got arrested. X
He surrounded himself and got arrested for/because he felt overpowered. OK
Being felt overpowered, he surrounded himself and got arrested.
............................................................

He wanted to buy a motorbike. He didn't have enough money.
Not having had enough money, he didn't buy a motorbike.
He wanted to buy a motorbike, but he didn't have enough money. (OK, but you only added a conjunction)
..............................................................

He had been very ill-mannered. He was disliked by everyone.
Having been very ill-mannered, he was (being) disliked by everyone. OK, but awkward.
He was being disliked by everyone, because he had been very ill-mannered.
On account of being very ill-mannered, he had been disliked by everyone. OK
Being ill-mannered, he had been was disliked by everyone.
.........................................................

Sarah was standing at the gate. She was stung by a Scorpio.
Sarah was standing at the gate when she was stung by a Scorpio.
Standing at the gate, Sarah was stung by a Scorpio.
Sarah was stung by a Scorpio while she was standing at the gate.
.........................................................

Norah is the best student in the class. She is my friend living two miles away of my house.
Norah, my best friend, is the best student in the class. She lives two miles away of house.
Norah, my best friend, is living or lives two miles away of my house. She is the best student in the class.
Norah, being my best friend living two miles away from my house, is the best student in the class. I realize that is awkward. Sometimes it's best to use shorter sentences and now you see why.
...........................................................................................

I was deceived by Ron. I didn't trust anyone ever after.
After being deceived by Ron, I didn't trust anyone ever after.
Can I also write: Deceived by Ron, I didn't trust anyone ever after.
Is it correct: After having deceived/ being been deceived by Ron, I didn't trust anyone ever after.
Having been deceived by Ron, I didn't trust anyone ever after.

Thank you. It's getting more clearer now. I noticed that there were less fewer mistakes as compared to my first thread, it also had constructions, but majority of the sentences was incorrect. I am writing better now just because the members of this forum helped me to understand how to construct sentences correctly

I will surely come up with more constructions. I hope it won't be a bother. I checked the forum and my name was appearing frequently in the left column. I hope that the moderator won't block me because I am asking too many questions, will they?

Hello san,

Don't worry! as long as you don't ask completely stupid questions,or talk nonsense,or write nasty things, you won't be blocked

Hey Lucile,
Thanks for your reply. I promise I won't break the rules or write non-sense here, I am here for a simple purpose- to learn English.
